What is After Dark?
HCT After Dark is Hawaiʻi Children’s Theatre’s audition-based program for performers and creatives ages 15 and up — older teens, HCT alumni, adults, and experienced theatre artists. It’s a space to be bold: edgier productions, thought-provoking material, complex characters, and advanced theatrical techniques, presented as fully staged productions under the guidance of professional directors and designers.
If you’re ready to take on deeper material and challenge your artistry, After Dark is a uniquely rewarding theatrical experience.
Who It’s For
Who Can Participate?
Anyone 15 or older with the drive to do challenging work — seasoned teens ready for the next level, college students home for the summer, alumni, and adults who never lost the itch.
Participation is by audition, and roles are cast according to the needs of each show and the talent demonstrated. Auditioning does not guarantee casting.

Some After Dark productions may include mature themes, language, or subject matter. HCT publishes a content advisory for each production when appropriate, so audiences, parents, and performers can make informed choices.
Advisories are always provided alongside ticketing when a show warrants one.
